Where to stay in Malta: The Capital Boutique Hotel Valletta

If you’re looking for where to stay in Malta, then in this post I’m going to share why staying at The Capital Boutique Hotel Valletta ended up being one of the best decisions we made during our trip. From its central location in Valletta to the rooftop views, spacious suites, and incredibly thoughtful staff, this hotel made exploring Malta feel easy, comfortable, and memorable.

While our stay was hosted, this review reflects my honest experience. I truly appreciated the level of care and hospitality the team provided throughout our time there, and I would happily stay here again on a future trip to Malta.

Why Valletta Is the Best Place to Stay in Malta

Before booking our trip, one of the biggest questions we had was where to stay in Malta. After spending time exploring the islands, Valletta is one of the best places to base yourself, especially if you are visiting Malta for less than a week.

What makes Valletta work so well is the balance it offers. You are surrounded by beautiful historic streets, great restaurants, cocktail bars, and waterfront views, but you are also incredibly well connected to the rest of the island. We found it really easy to explore during the day and then come back to Valletta at night where everything still felt lively and walkable.

One of the biggest advantages is the newer fast ferry connection to Gozo, which is only about a 10-minute walk from the hotel. The crossing takes around 45 minutes, making it easy to visit both Gozo and Comino for the day without constantly changing accommodations during your trip.

Using one hotel as a base ended up making the trip feel far more relaxing. Malta is small enough that constantly packing up and moving around between cities just does not feel necessary unless you are staying for an extended period.

Why We Chose The Capital Boutique Hotel Valletta

If you are researching where to stay in Valletta or looking at the best hotels in Valletta, The Capital Boutique Hotel Valletta stands out for a few reasons. The first is the location. The hotel sits on a quieter side street, which means you can still sleep peacefully at night while being only minutes from Valletta’s restaurants, bars, and main attractions. We never felt far from anything, but it also never felt chaotic when we returned in the evenings.

The second thing that really stood out was the atmosphere and level of service. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. They happily held our bags when we arrived before check in and after check out, gave recommendations for things to prioritize around Malta, and consistently went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable throughout our stay.

After check-in, we were greeted with a drink and invited to enjoy it on the rooftop terrace overlooking the city. It was one of the best introductions to Valletta we could have asked for. Sitting above the rooftops looking out over the churches and water immediately made us excited for the rest of the trip.

Our King Suite Experience

We stayed in one of the king suites, and the amount of space surprised us in the best way. Especially in a historic European city, it felt incredibly spacious and comfortable. The suite had a large king-size bed, a full seating area with a couch, two desks, and plenty of storage space for luggage and clothes. There were also two TVs, excellent air conditioning, strong WiFi, and a beautiful bathroom with a rain shower and Balmain Paris amenities.

One thing I really appreciated was how quiet the room felt. Valletta can be busy and lively outside, but once we closed the door it felt peaceful. After long days exploring Malta, it was nice being able to throw on a robe, relax comfortably, and recharge for the next day.

I also think this hotel would work really well for anyone working remotely while traveling. Between the reliable and fast WiFi, workspace in the room, rooftop seating, and downstairs lounge areas, there are plenty of comfortable spots to work from throughout the property.

The Rooftop Pool and Bar

The rooftop ended up being one of our favorite parts of the hotel. Not only is there a rooftop pool to cool off in during warmer afternoons, but the rooftop bar also offers incredible panoramic views across Valletta and out toward the Mediterranean. Whether we stopped up there during the day or for drinks in the evening, the atmosphere always felt relaxed and elevated without being overly formal.

One thing that surprised me is that The Capital Boutique Hotel Valletta is one of the few hotels in Valletta offering rooftop views like this without charging a cover fee just to access the space. That alone made us appreciate it even more because it still felt accessible and welcoming rather than exclusive. If you enjoy photography or simply love a good rooftop view while traveling, this is one of the best spots in Valletta to unwind after a day exploring the island.

Indigo Lounge and Evening Atmosphere

For cooler evenings, we also spent some time at the Indigo Lounge, the hotel’s indoor cocktail bar. The space has this cozy retro-inspired feel with warm lighting and custom cocktails that made it easy to settle in for the evening. It felt very different from the rooftop but equally enjoyable in its own way. I also appreciated that the hotel uses the lounge for community events and gatherings because it gave the property a more personal atmosphere instead of feeling like just another luxury hotel disconnected from the city around it.

Breakfast at The Capital Boutique Hotel Valletta

Breakfast each morning ended up being another highlight of our stay. There was an extensive buffet with yogurts, smoothies, pastries, cereals, juices, and espresso drinks included, but what I really appreciated was that you could also order a hot breakfast item fresh and made to order each morning.

One day I ordered avocado toast with eggs, while another morning I went with fried eggs. My partner enjoyed the scrambled eggs, and there were also sweeter options like pancakes, crepes, and French toast available alongside heartier choices like a full English breakfast. It was the kind of breakfast that made us want to slow down a bit in the mornings rather than rush out the door immediately.
